Abstract This paper presents the proposition of a set of technical and managerial actions recommended for the management of energy in industry. Economic, environmental, political and social aspects have been putting pressure on the whole society for a more conscious and efficient use and consumption of energy in its diverse forms. Energy-intensive industries show a high energy consumption, they work with processes in severe temperature conditions, residual dissipation of heat and flux of not used residues, always being subject to great environment risks. These large-sized companies offer great opportunities for making energy more efficient, use of co-generation and various other possibilities for a better management and improvement of energetic performance. The research is characterized as quali-quantitative, exploratory and descriptive, presenting a statistical analysis for the questionnaire answers. The energy management practices refer to procedures used for dealing with energetic issues. In function of the interdisciplinary aspect of energy management in the industry, the management practices can be better understood with technical and managerial continuous or frequent actions. A Delphi study for verification of the validity of the proposed technical and managerial actions was carried out together with academia and industry specialists. The results show a favorable positioning, confirmed by a reliability rate among suitable evaluators (IRR - Inter Rater Reliability). The set of technical and managerial actions is made up of reference elements for creation, organization and conduction of an energy management system in the industry.

Abstract Paper aims The Industry 4.0 movement highlights the importance of information and communication technologies and the two main reasons for this are advances in digitalization and automation. However, organizations trying to implement technologies face several barriers in their systems. These barriers are intensified in legacy systems, tightly coupled to organizational processes. Thus, to overcome these barriers, an adequacy strategy was structured, and detailed in the context of interoperability. Originality This article proposes a digital transformation framework focused on interoperability in maintenance systems. Research method Aiming to make legacy systems work together with cyber-physical systems, the proposed framework suggests its suitability based on strategic decisions, using Multicriteria Decision Making (MCDM) methods. Main findings The framework outputs demonstrate that people are the main drivers of digital transformation and that the strategies proposed by it are coherent with the actual development of both cases, proven in a new interview one year apart from its application. Implications for theory and practice Real industrial cases demonstrate that the framework can guarantee interoperability while facilitating strategic decisions to implement technologies in legacy maintenance systems. In the end, the legacy system, which will interoperate with the new technologies, is called Smart Legacy System.

Abstract Paper aims Diagnostic analysis of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) based on Industry 4.0 requirements supported by the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method. Originality The literature review found no research papers on PLM Maturity Models linked to requirements of Industry 4.0, attesting to the originality of the research and the topic proposed by the study. Research method The analysis is performed using an assessment framework that organizes and lists I4.0 attributes and PLM categories, supported by a multicriteria diagnostic assessment model based on the AHP method. The case study used in the research is an automotive industry located in the city of Curitiba, Brazil. Main findings A diagnostic analysis of the PLM categories and attributes of the I4.0 was performed, and the company’s overall levels of maturity were observed. Implication for theory and practice The results obtained from the diagnostic analysis indicate that the company maturity is Level 2, analyses were also undertaken with respect to PLM categories and Industry 4.0 attributes. Proposals for improvements were made with the objective of increasing the level of maturity and reducing gaps and problems identified in the diagnostic assessment.

Abstract Paper aims Aiming to avoid an inefficient digital transformation, the present work proposes a framework that will provide companies with a strategy to implement technologies to legacy systems of maintenance. Originality Such a framework was produced through a series of strategic analyses using multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) methods. Research method These analyses are composed of three steps. First, reviewing the literature of industry 4.0 and interoperability, combining the RAMI4.0 architecture and Framework for Enterprise Interoperability (FEI). Second, by exploring technics of maturity assessments, addressing systems attributes and requirements. Third, reviewing the literature of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and recent maintenance technologies applications. Main findings The results confirm that such a framework can support the adequacy of legacy systems that are part of digital transformation projects. Implications for theory and practice To test the proposed framework, a multinational industrial entity belonging to the automotive sector was selected for a case study.

Abstract Governments and private companies have increased efforts to identify effective actions for improving energy efficiency in manufacturing processes. The objective of this work is to improve the decision-making process by increasing the quality of information related to energy indicators in the food industry. This research involves developing a systematic literature review (SLR) to identify energy efficiency indicators in the food industry, which serve as inputs for a sectoral evaluation based on multicriteria techniques. The SLR identified six criteria evaluated by food industry experts, which form the proposed basis for evaluating the performance of related sectors. These criteria are: benchmarks, key performance indicators, framework, monitoring, ISO 50001, and information communication technologies (ICTs) in sectoral evaluations. The criteria were evaluated by experts using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), which prioritizes the most important food industry issues using an evaluation scale. Weights were attributed to each issue and positioned according to the Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluations (PROMETHEE) to evaluate each sector by the identified criteria. The evaluated criteria are applicable to the three sectors surveyed, with emphasis on the beverage sector. Among the evaluated criteria, ICTs were highlighted by Industry 4.0 as a concern for the food sector.

Abstract The acceptance and deployment of electric power from sustainable sources, which are less polluting than fossils, have been a consensus throughout society. Specially, the growth of the installed capacity in photovoltaic energy has been considerable in distributed generation. In order to properly take advantage of this growing demand, it is necessary to adopt appropriate measures and procedures to improve the operation and performance of photovoltaic systems. The purpose of this work is to present such measures and procedures, under quantitative and qualitative analysis, using scientific methodologies and tools. In the end, a set of procedures was obtained that analyzes functional and structural aspects of small grid-connected photovoltaic systems. Its validation was carried out in a case study of photovoltaic system of the Department of Electrical Engineering (DELT) of the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR, Brazil).

Abstract This paper presents the development of a conceptual map regarding energy management applied to industry. The energy issue is currently of great relevance, especially for the so-called energy-intensive industries related to high energy consumption and their associated environmental impacts. The present research is characterized as a basic, exploratory approach justified by the need to build knowledge on the subject of energy management in industry. The methodology provides for the use of a computational tool called CMap Tools, which assists in the graphic representation of the proposed conceptual map. The conceptual map based on the ISO 50001 standard and on successful energy management practices described in the scientific literature is directed toward a process design covered by the managerial discipline called Business Process Management. The conceptual map is intended to clarify the relationships that are established between the intra-organizational and main external stakeholders involved in an energy management system. Owing to the way internal areas and external organizations relate, the representation structure using a “Spider” is the most appropriate. The work developed presents an energy management system for an energy-intensive industry in a clear (conceptually and visually), orderly, unified, harmonious, and balanced manner indicating the distribution of its elements, and serves as an initial step in the creation of an ontology for this area of knowledge.

ABSTRACT Companies have needs and experience new opportunities to build their structure and align organizational process to achieve energy management with higher priority facing economic and environmental issues. The objective of this paper is to present the design and modeling of the Energy Management System (EnMS) in energy-intensive industries in an enterprise engineering approach, according to the management discipline called Business Process Management (BPM). The design of the process is based on the ISO 50001 standard and in good practices cited in the scientific literature. The methodology is characterized as basic, experimental, qualitative, and oriented according to the BPM development cycle. The process design created in the “should be” format presents a framework based on the Plan, Do, Check and Act (PDCA) cycle. The process is described in a necessary and sufficient way, arranging activities, actors and roles to establish an energy management process. The key process model of the energy review was developed in the Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN). The design and modeling allows to: analyze the EnMS as a process for understanding the activities; assist decision making; automate processes; enable collaboration; allow alignment of the process with the strategy; support the change and assisting with the evaluation of the organizational potential to implement the EnMS.
